September kicks off an exciting season of art shows, gallery walks and holiday themed art events that slide us from Fall into Winter and is a great time to get out and see some art at various places around town. First on the list is the 3 Fridas show featuring the Studio 109 artists and be sure to get your entry in to the Dia de Los Muertos Art Show at Bath House Cultural Center. Read on and don't miss!
Fans of Mexican Surrealist painter Frida Kahlo will not want to miss this art show, an homage to the many facets of Frida's work. "Studio 109", an artist collective comprised of the works of Dallas painters, Melody Hay, Meredith Redard and Jennifer Shipley, host a three-woman show, "The 3 Fridas".
"The 3 Fridas" pays homage to the Mexican surrealist painter, Frida Kahlo, and 3 major subjects of her paintings: Portraits, Still Lifes and Journals. Meredith Redard’s work will focus on portraits reflective of Frida’s work in both oil and acrylic. Jennifer Shipley’s pieces concentrate on still lifes in oil and acrylic and Melody Hay’s work will shed light on Frida’s lesser-known journals with her paintings in mixed media and acrylic, focusing on the written word. Collaborative works by the three painters will also be on display.
The 3 Fridas will be on exhibit from September 3rd – 21st at The Janette Kennedy Gallery at the lofts of South Side on Lamar Building. 1409 South Lamar Street. Dallas, TX 75215-1871.(214) 428-4848. Open Weekdays 9am-7pm; Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 1pm-5pm
